Coy Richards

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

In our work together, you will learn to curb cyclical, negative thinking and instead focus on building healthy relationships with yourself and others. We will explore both helpful and unhelpful patterns. You will build and integrate skills and tools that you can put into practice right away. My role in our work is to support you in overcoming your fears and feelings of overwhelm so that you can strengthen your sense of well-being and experience a more balanced and joyful life.

Backgroud

MY BACKGROUND

Over the last 20 years, I have worked with children, teens, young adults, and adults. I also have experience with parents/couples and groups in an array of counseling and community mental health settings. I have experience working with a spectrum of diverse clients with respect to gender, race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, and ability. As both a licensed clinical social worker and a certified yoga teacher, I have found profound healing possible when fusing traditional behavioral psychotherapy and mindful modalities. I can work with one modality or the other, exclusively, or weave the two together. I will always let you know what I am doing, and why, and make sure we are doing the work in therapy that you want to be doing. But if you are curious to learn more, please ask!

Approach

MY APPROACH

I am proactive, empathic, conversational, and practical. I have experience in individual, family and couples therapy (using the Gottman Method). I am level 3 trained in the Gottman approach which is steeped in decades of research involving real life couples. My interventions and techniques are based in science and hard data, aimed at strengthening and repairing your relationship. The result: increased relationship success, higher levels of relationship satisfaction and intimacy, and fewer future relapses (instances of regressing to previously unhelpful behavior and/or dynamics).
My blend of expertise gives me a unique understanding of the intimate connection between mind and body. I hope to empower my clients with the skills and mindful techniques necessary for managing anxiety, depression, and the challenges that accompany significant life transitions. I work from mainly a relational, psychodynamic perspective and incorporate mindfulness and CBT practices.
